Amazon is in negotiations to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart for approximately US$ 7 billion, according to a report published by Wall Street Journal on Sunday (11). The talks have not yet resulted in a definitive agreement, and the deal may not be completed.
The company, founded in 2023 and headquartered in San Francisco, develops technologies to optimize artificial intelligence processing across different types of chips, as well as models capable of generating videos and interactive virtual environments. Amazon already has a commercial relationship with Decart through its cloud computing division, AWS.
Negotiated amount exceeds May valuation, when Decart raised US$ 300 million
The amount under discussion represents a difference of approximately US$ 3 billion compared with the nearly US$ 4 billion valuation assigned to the startup in May 2026, according to PitchBook data cited by the newspaper.
That month, Decart announced a US$ 300 million funding round, led by Radical Ventures and with participation from Nvidia, Adobe Ventures, Toyota Ventures, and other investors. The raise took place amid the expansion of its AI infrastructure platform.
The comparison highlights the financial scale of the current negotiations, but does not represent an effectively realized valuation. The US$ 7 billion is a reported amount for a possible acquisition, not a final agreed-upon or paid price.
The technology relationship with Amazon predates the talks. In May, Decart identified the company as a strategic customer and confirmed a partnership with AWS to offer real-time AI models. Its Decart Optimization Stack (DOS) system allows running and optimizing workloads across different architectures, including Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium chips.
In addition to infrastructure, the startup develops the Lucy, a real-time video editing and transformation model, and the Oasis, aimed at creating simulated environments for applications such as robotics and autonomous driving.
Amazon is also not the first company to consider the acquisition. According to information disclosed by Bloomberg, Anthropic evaluated a transaction of approximately US$ 6 billion in August, but withdrew from the negotiations in September, after conducting an analysis of the company.
The Wall Street Journal reported that a deal with Amazon could be reached soon, although the talks could still fail or attract other interested parties. Contacted by Reuters, Amazon did not comment on the matter outside business hours, while Decart did not respond to a request for comment.
