Epic Games announced the sale of the ArtStation and Sketchfab platforms to KitBash for an undisclosed amount. The announcement comes a little more than five years after the company acquired the two platforms, in 2021.
The developer of Fortnite and Unreal Engine said the sale aims to prioritize the development of Unreal Engine 6, Fortnite, the Epic Games Store, and the developer ecosystem.
KitBash is known for operating the KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla platforms, which offer asset and material libraries, design and animation tools, among other resources for artists.
KitBash co-CEO Banks Boutté said in a blog post on Epic's website that the company will strive to 'protect what users value most on each platform.' He stated: 'These are platforms where people have built portfolios, careers, and communities. That trust is real, and our first priority is to protect what users value most on each platform, listen to the people who depend on them, and build carefully for the future.'
The transaction will not result in price changes for ArtStation, Sketchfab, or KitBash products.
Cost cutting
The sale comes amid Epic's efforts to cut costs. Earlier this year, the company announced the elimination of more than 1,000 jobs in response to a 'drop' in engagement with Fortnite that began in 2025. The company said the layoffs will result in savings of more than US$ 500 million.
