Playground Games estimates that the main story of Fable will be between 15 and 20 hours long, with a similar amount of optional content and exploration. The information was given by associate game director Will Kennedy during a question-and-answer session at Gamescom 2026 attended by Polygon.
Kennedy said the studio prepared approximately 15 to 20 hours of main missions and another 15 to 20 hours of side activities and open-world exploration. In practice, players interested in also following the optional content could reach around 30 to 40 hours before considering the RPG's life systems.
These systems will not have a defined duration. According to Kennedy, elements linked to the character's life can be enjoyed for as long as the player wants. The game will allow, for example, developing relationships and carrying out activities within Albion, as well as following how reputation and decisions affect the world's inhabitants.
The structure is part of the open-world proposal of the new Fable, which will be a reboot of the franchise instead of a direct continuation of the original trilogy. Playground Games also confirmed that the title will be single-player only.
The studio describes moral choices and their consequences as one of the game's central elements. The protagonist's reputation can change their relationship with residents and influence the world around them.
Fable will be released on February 23, 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, in addition to arriving on Game Pass Ultimate at launch. The official date corrects the February 27 information mentioned in some initial reports.
Players who purchase the Premium or Collector's editions will be able to start playing on February 18, with up to five days of early access.
