Epic Games announced this Monday (17) the list of characters for the Overdrive battle pass, the next Fortnite season themed around classic video games. The announcement came with a 32-bit style trailer and confirms both parodies of famous franchises and the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog, licensed by Sega.
Battle pass skins
In the trailer, the character Jonesy travels through game-inspired realities and encounters a series of original characters. Among the battle pass skins are Bastion, similar to Link from The Legend of Zelda; K1TTYW1NS, a pilot inspired by Mario Kart; Wrixel, a blocky character in Minecraft style; and Grace Crowne, a soldier reminiscent of Lara Croft. Rounding out the list are Mali, a fighter inspired by Mortal Kombat, and Phantom, a soldier in Call of Duty style.
Sonic android
The pass also includes a Sonic the Hedgehog skin and a new version of Geno, Fortnite's villain. According to an official comic from the partnership between Fortnite and Sonic, the playable character is not the real Sonic, but a human-sized android that contains the biological data of Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow. The publication also indicates that Geno works with Dr. Robotnik.
New season context
The new season was announced after last weekend's live event, in which Geno and the Seven fought for control of reality. The clash resulted in a world reset with video game cheat codes. The Zero Point, central element of the plot, was replaced by a giant cartridge, and several retro franchises appeared in the game.
Fortnite: Overdrive begins on August 20. Until then, Epic keeps the current season's battle pass available so players can complete their progression and collect the remaining Sprites.
