LG and Nvidia announced on Thursday (13) an agreement to develop a next-generation bipedal humanoid robot, with public debut scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. The memorandum of understanding was signed at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, with LG Corp Chairman and CEO Kwang Mo Koo and Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang in attendance.
Humanoid robot
The robot will be powered by the Nvidia Jetson Thor onboard computer, with reasoning and control capabilities, and will be built with the Nvidia Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model and the Nvidia Halos robotics safety system. LG will bring together 'One LG' capabilities from LG Electronics, LG Innotek, and LG Energy Solution, including actuators, sensors, and batteries.
Later this year, LG will deploy the wheeled robot LG CLOiD on the washing machine production line of LG Electronics in Tennessee, in the United States, for validation in a real environment. Based on the results, the company plans to expand the application to factories, homes, and commercial spaces.
The collaboration also provides for a data factory for robots with the LG CNS PhysicalWorks platform, with continuous data collection, synthetic data generation, training, and verification. LG intends to use the Nvidia Isaac GR00T and continue developing its own foundation model for robots (RFM).
AI factories
In the first half of 2027, LG plans to build an AI factory reference site with the Nvidia DSX platform and the Nvidia Vera Rubin architecture. The company also plans to build an 80 MW AI factory in Cheonan, South Korea, by the first half of 2028.
The initiative seeks to validate a complete AI factory solution with 'One LG' capabilities and expand opportunities in the global AI infrastructure market.
Mobility
For the automotive sector, LG plans to develop a high-performance computing platform for AI-defined vehicles based on Nvidia DRIVE Hyperion, integrating the company's infotainment and automotive software. The goal is to offer global automakers solutions that combine autonomous driving and AI services inside the vehicle.
Koo said the discussions advanced quickly and that LG will accelerate the dissemination of AI with leading industry references. Huang said that physical AI can give every machine the ability to understand the real world, reason, and act safely alongside people.
