A comparison published by the channel ElAnalistaDeBits shows Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots running at 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, against the 30 FPS target of the original PS3 version, which could record drops to around 15 FPS. The game returns in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, with release scheduled for August 27.
The new edition also features higher resolution, adjustments to shadows and textures, and a cleaner image. In a direct comparison, the PS5 maintains a slight advantage in rendering resolution and stability in the most demanding scenes, while the Switch 2 delivers performance close to Sony's console.

On Switch 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 reaches 1080p in handheld mode and can output 4K when connected to a TV, with internal resolution of up to 1440p. In both modes, the maximum rate is 60 frames per second.

The difference is greater compared to the original Nintendo Switch. On that hardware, the game is limited to 30 FPS, with resolution of up to 720p in handheld mode and 1080p when connected to the TV.

MGS4 leaves the PS3 after 18 years

The release also marks the first port of Metal Gear Solid 4 since its original release in 2008. Konami confirmed in February that the title would be part of the second Master Collection and would arrive on current platforms, ending a period of 18 years restricted to PlayStation 3.

In addition to Guns of the Patriots, the collection includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, based on the HD Collection version, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel as additional content. Also planned are digital books with script and character information, a database of Metal Gear Solid 4 and a new digital soundtrack.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will be released on August 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker will also be available for purchase separately in digital format.
