Mojang announced this Saturday (26) that The Sift, a dimension originally introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II, will also be added to Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition in 2027. It will be the first new dimension incorporated into the main game in more than 14 years.

The Sift will become the fourth dimension of Minecraft, alongside the Overworld, the Nether and the End. During Minecraft Live, Mojang showed a preview of how the new environment will work in the main game and revealed at least one of the creatures that will be present there.

The company has not yet announced a specific date for the release on Java and Bedrock. The announcement is significant because of the scale of the change: for more than a decade, Minecraft updates added biomes, structures, creatures and systems without expanding the set of dimensions available in the game.

The Sift debuts first in Minecraft Dungeons II

The dimension was already part of Minecraft Dungeons II, which will be released on September 29, 2026. In the spin-off, The Sift is part of an interconnected world and can be accessed through rifts found during exploration. Among its areas are locations called Meadow and Carapace.

The confirmation at Minecraft Live, therefore, expands the dimension's role: it ceases to be just an element of the new Dungeons and also becomes part of Minecraft's core.

Mojang has not yet detailed how players will reach The Sift in Java and Bedrock, which features will be exclusive to the dimension, or to what extent its implementation will be different from the version present in Dungeons II. The company said it will disclose more in-depth information later.
