More than 70 professionals are leaving Supermassive Games, the British studio responsible for Until Dawn, The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology. The departures affect developers, artists, producers, quality control teams and operations, according to Frank Tindle, former IT and Facilities director at the company.
Tindle confirmed on Monday (5) that his own position was eliminated after 16 years at the studio. In a LinkedIn post, he said that the round affects more than 70 people in different areas. He was also part of the company's senior leadership.
The number is close to the limit indicated by Supermassive itself in August. On August 11, the company announced a consultation process for staff reduction that could result in the elimination of up to 75 jobs. At the time, it described the measure as necessary to ensure the company's sustainability.
Supermassive has not yet officially disclosed the final number of professionals laid off after the conclusion of the process. Tindle's account, however, shows that the cuts reached a large part of the total projected two months ago.
Studio faces 3rd round of layoffs in three years
The reduction extends a series of restructurings at the developer. In 2024, approximately 90 jobs were cut. In July 2025, another 36 professionals left the company in a reorganization that also led to the postponement of Directive 8020. Combined with the current round, the reductions amount to approximately 200 positions in less than three years.
The new layoffs come less than six months after the release of Directive 8020, released on May 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The title marked the continuation of the series The Dark Pictures Anthology.
Supermassive's current size after the layoffs was not disclosed. Tindle stated that the studio at one point exceeded 400 employees during his years at the company.
