Take-Two Interactive has turned to the U.S. courts to obtain user data from Microsoft and Discord that may be linked to the disclosure of unauthorized GTA VImaterials. The measure seeks to identify people involved in the publication and distribution of the content before the game's release.
The request was submitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and includes information that could help track accounts associated with the leaks.
Microsoft will have to provide account data
In Microsoft's case, Take-Two requested information related to accounts linked to the user known as Cyberleek, identified as responsible for the recent disclosure of GTA VI materials.
Among the requested data are email addresses, IP addresses, phone numbers, related accounts, and information stored in OneDrive. Microsoft must deliver the records by September 4.
The publisher is also seeking information on Discord about users of servers that allegedly participated in the circulation of the files. The list includes communities associated with the names Cyberleek, CinematicRockstar, and Surfer24k.
One of the cited servers belongs to the editing team of GTA V streamer Matthew Judge, known as DarkViperAU.
Judge said he does not know why his server was included in the request. According to him, the space was not used to distribute the leaked materials, and Rockstar Games did not directly contact his team.
The leaks were accompanied by demands
In August, Cyberleek began disclosing materials related to the unreleased game and published a manifesto directed at Take-Two.
The document demanded changes to the industry's business practices, including rules for digital pre-orders, additional content locked within the base game, and the possibility of keeping single-player games running offline after servers are shut down.
Rockstar had already faced another large-scale leak in 2022, when dozens of videos of a version of GTA VI still in development were published on the internet.
After the episode, the company reinforced internal security measures. In 2024, employees were also instructed to return to in-person work five days a week.
The release of GTA VI is scheduled for November 19. Pre-orders opened on June 25, with prices starting at US$ 79.99, after previous delays to the release schedule.
