Writer launched the Palmyra X6 AI model and new updates to its agent infrastructure on Thursday. The company says the combination will reduce customer costs on basic tasks by up to 50%. TechCrunch reported on Thursday (13).

Palmyra X6 is a post-training variation of Z.ai's open model GLM-5.2. According to Writer, the system offers deployment-ready capabilities at a lower price. The new features have been available to customers since Thursday.
The strategy prioritizes complex, multi-step tasks, executed faster and with fewer tokens. The company is betting on infrastructure optimization as the main lever for cutting costs.
Internal research
A study by Writer researchers tested small changes in infrastructure efficiency across several models and found an average 40% drop in costs. “Infrastructure is the only component whose efficiency multiplies across every model an organization runs, present and future,” the authors wrote.
CEO's view
Writer CEO May Habib said companies are tired of chasing benchmarks and want cost reductions. “The cost explosion is unprecedented for customers, as is the degree to which CIOs are walking away from the labs,” she said, adding that the big labs don't know how to help companies get value from AI.
For customers, the experience remains model-agnostic: Palmyra X6 will sit alongside other Writer models or external models imported through Azure or Amazon Bedrock.
