Replit is a cloud development environment that now puts its creation agent at the centre of the experience. From a description, the agent writes the code, assembles the project, runs it and publishes it, with a browser preview and no local install.
The platform provides the services an application needs to run: a SQL and Postgres-compatible database, object storage for files, built-in authentication with a documented Clerk alternative, and catalogued integrations. Publishing produces a production deployment with its own URL and hosting types that range from static to reserved VM, with automatic scaling.
Version control is built in: import, modify and push code between Replit and GitHub, with a Git pane, file history, branches and agent checkpoints for rollback. Native mobile apps can be generated with Expo and submitted to the stores.
It is a broad platform that serves founders and designers as well as engineering teams, which is why it also works as an environment for existing code.
