Apex Legends took first place in Steam's domestic sales ranking in Japan for three consecutive days after the start of the crossover with Street Fighter 6. The performance was recorded between September 23 and 25 by GameBiz, which tracks the platform's ranking in the Japanese market daily.
In the week of September 19 to 25, Apex Legends ended with three days in the lead, while WARDOGS stayed at the top for four. The rise coincided with the arrival of the event for Street Fighter 6, launched globally on September 22 — already on September 23 in Japanese time.
The collaboration added to the Wildcard mode combat styles based on Ryu, Chun-Li, Akuma and Dhalsim, as well as transforming parts of Olympus with elements of Street Fighter 6. Electronic Arts also introduced eight Legend skins, eight legendary weapon skins and a universal Mythic cosmetic inspired by the Hadoken. The event remains available until October 13.
The ranking offers a regional signal of traction for the collaboration, but does not by itself make it possible to attribute the lead to the crossover or measure its effect on the global revenue of Apex Legends. The game had already held first place on Japanese Steam for three days the previous week, when EA had only announced the partnership.
Even so, the run at the top after launch places the collaboration among the elements associated with the title's recent commercial performance in Japan and shows how events with other intellectual properties continue to be used to renew content and monetization in games operated as a service.
