The Coalition confirmed this Monday (12) that DDoS attacks hit the online services of Gears of War: E-Day, causing authentication failures, disconnections, and interruptions during matches. The studio said it was continuing to monitor activity and taking measures to reduce their effects.
The problems gained visibility on Sunday (11), when players reported difficulties accessing multiplayer matches. Some could not establish a connection with the servers, while others were disconnected after entering the game.
In a statement published by the official Gears Community profile on the X platform, the developer attributed the interruptions to distributed denial-of-service attacks, known as DDoS. This type of attack seeks to overload services with a high volume of traffic, harming access for legitimate users.
Studio maintains mitigation measures without confirming full normalization
The Coalition's statement establishes an important distinction about the nature of the incident: the confirmed attacks targeted the availability of the online services.
The statement does not report account breaches, leakage of personal information, or compromise of the developer's internal systems. Although DDoS attacks can cause significant interruptions, their occurrence does not by itself constitute evidence of unauthorized access to data.
The company also did not present an estimate for the full normalization of services. In the statement, it said that its teams were continuing to monitor and mitigate the attacks and that new updates would be released if there were significant changes.
The incident occurred a few days after the worldwide launch of Gears of War: E-Day, on October 6, for Xbox and PC. The difficulties affected precisely the title's connected features, including authentication and access to online matches.
As of the October 12 statement, the studio had not disclosed the total duration of the interruptions, the number of players affected, or information about those responsible for the attacks.
