Santa Monica Studio announced this Wednesday (4) the delay of God of War Laufey, the new chapter in the Sony franchise for PlayStation 5. Initially scheduled for February 16, 2027, the game will arrive on May 20, 2027, approximately three months later than planned.

In a statement published on social media, the developer said it will use the additional period to make the final adjustments and make better use of the project's potential. The studio did not point to specific technical problems nor detail which aspects of the game still need work.

The team also thanked players for their patience and said it will share new updates soon, without setting a date for the next presentation.

Announced in June 2026, God of War Laufey puts Faye, wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, as the protagonist. The character awakens after her death in Everywhen, a supernatural realm that brings together gods and creatures from different mythologies.

The adventure follows her attempt to escape this place and protect her family. The game retains combat elements characteristic of God of War, but opts for more agile movement, aerial attacks and magical abilities unique to Faye.

Actress Deborah Ann Woll returns to the role of the character, while Jack Quaid plays Phranque, a cosmic cube that accompanies the protagonist during the journey.

Pre-sales began on September 29, when Sony also presented the pre-order bonuses, the Digital Deluxe edition and new information about Faye's weapons and abilities. The delay changes the release forecast announced on that occasion, keeping the launch announced for PlayStation 5.
