Bethesda Game Studios confirmed on Tuesday (3) that its next RPG will be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement took place during a video celebrating the studio's 40th anniversary and was accompanied by a teaser that points to Hammerfell, one of the provinces of the The Elder Scrolls universe.
The reveal was presented by Todd Howard, Bethesda's executive producer, at the end of a retrospective on the games developed by the company. The video showed for the first time the official subtitle of the sixth chapter of the franchise, originally announced in 2018.
The complementary teaser shows a scroll emerging from the sand and ends with a message attributed to Yazar, a Moth Priest in the service of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell. The reference reinforces the new game's connection to the region, which is home to the city of Sentinel.
Although Bethesda has stated that it revealed the name and location of the next chapter, no details have yet been presented about the extent of the explorable setting or the game's story.
The confirmation also ends speculation about the subtitle. At the end of October, a report by The Verge had anticipated the name Sentinel based on information from unidentified sources. Until Tuesday's announcement, however, the developer had not publicly confirmed that information.
The game still has no release date and no officially announced platforms. The presentation also did not include gameplay demonstrations or information about its systems.
In a social media post, Bethesda clarified that the project remains in development:
> “Development continues and it will still be some time before we are ready to share more information.”
The statement indicates that the title reveal does not represent an imminent presentation of the game. For now, the name Sentinel and the reference to Hammerfell are the main official news released since the initial announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI, more than eight years ago.
