Rockstar North said that Grand Theft Auto VI will not have microtransactions in its main experience and that no generative artificial intelligence tool was used in the development of the game.
The statements were made by Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, during a conversation with Greg Miller and Andy Cortez, from Kinda Funny, who visited the company's studio in Edinburgh, Scotland, on August 27.
Cortez asked Nelson whether players could spend real money to acquire items within GTA VI. According to the hosts' account, the executive answered negatively.
Miller also directly asked whether Rockstar had resorted to generative AI during production. The answer was again negative.
The stance gains relevance at a time when major developers are experimenting with generative tools to speed up parts of game production, including image creation, dialogues, animations, and other assets.
In the case of GTA VI, Rockstar has emphasized the work of artists and developers in building the game world and in the level of detail of environments and characters.
The statement about monetization, however, does not clarify the future of GTA Online. Rockstar has not yet provided details about the next generation of the online mode, which in GTA V uses real-money purchases as an important part of its revenue model.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
