Kalshi, the prediction markets platform, launched access on Wednesday (12) to its data feed for sports and crypto perpetual contracts over DoubleZero Edge's dedicated fiber-optic network. The goal is to expand institutional access to real-time data.

With the initiative, Kalshi becomes the first prediction platform to distribute its real-time order book for sports event and cryptocurrency contracts. The feed will be available to new DoubleZero Edge subscribers, providing access to a machine-readable view without the need to build proprietary infrastructure from APIs and order books.

According to Austin Federa, co-founder of DoubleZero, data access is a "critical part" of market structure, but the related infrastructure was absent in new financial paradigms such as crypto, perpetuals and prediction markets. He said the initiative will bring institutional-grade infrastructure to industry participants.

Dune data shows that sports are Kalshi's second-largest category, with 37.8% of weekly notional volume, followed by crypto at 20.3%. The "exotics" category leads, with 39.4% of weekly volume.

In early July, OpenAI began displaying Kalshi's prediction market odds for FIFA World Cup matches in ChatGPT search results.

Regulatory dispute

Kalshi's sports event contracts are at the center of a conflict between state regulators and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). State authorities argue the contracts are bets subject to state gambling laws, while the CFTC and Kalshi maintain they are derivatives under the federal agency's exclusive jurisdiction.

On June 29, a Michigan judge temporarily blocked Kalshi from allowing residents to bet on sports events. Days earlier, Kentucky sued five prediction market platforms, including Kalshi and Polymarket, accusing them of operating unlicensed sports betting platforms. Nevada also issued a temporary prohibition against Kalshi in March. The CFTC also sued several states, arguing that federally regulated contracts are under its exclusive authority.
