Nvidia reduced the guarantee it will offer OpenAI in a data center contract from US$ 250 billion to just under US$ 120 billion, after investors pressured the chipmaker over concerns about its risk exposure. Reported the WSJ on Friday (14).
Reduced guarantee
The guarantee covers the first phase of construction, with about 5 gigawatts of capacity. OpenAI is separately negotiating the lease of the full 10-gigawatt project, developed by SB Energy, a SoftBank subsidiary. Nvidia is also negotiating separate financing for OpenAI's chip purchases, of up to US$ 350 billion.
The reduction of the commitment should reinforce warnings from critics about a bubble in the artificial intelligence sector.
Anthropic's growth
In contrast, Anthropic's revenue more than doubled in a quarter. According to Reuters, the company went from US$ 4.73 billion in the first quarter to more than US$ 11.5 billion in the second, a 14-fold increase year over year.
People familiar with the company's finances say Anthropic projects revenue of about US$ 190 billion to US$ 200 billion for 2028. That figure is well above the annualized rate of approximately US$ 45 billion presented in May. Anthropic says revenue grew more than 10 times in each of the three years through early 2026.
The company plans to go public with a valuation close to US$ 1 trillion between late September and early October. Ramp, a financial services company, measured a slight easing in demand for Anthropic tokens among corporate clients.
