Pearl Abyss confirmed that Crimson Desert will be released on Switch 2, with launch expected for the 1st half of 2027, and said it sees “significant potential” for multiplayer expansion, including live-service operating models. The information is in the company’s financial results letter for the 2nd quarter of 2026.
In the letter, the company reported an additional 2.11 million copies sold of the game, which had already surpassed 5 million in June. The company said it seeks to make Crimson Desert available on “as many platforms as possible,” with no immediate plans for a mobile version.
Multiplayer expansion
Regarding multiplayer, Pearl Abyss said the game’s dynamic combat and open world offer “significant potential” for the mode. However, integrating the functionality is a complex technical initiative that requires evaluating server architecture, balance, cross-platform stability, and live-service operating models. “We are conducting extensive research from both a technical and gameplay standpoint,” the company stated.
DLC and franchise
Pearl Abyss also plans to turn Crimson Desert into a franchise, with the game serving as the company’s main IP. The first DLC is in development, with a launch target still this year. The company said plans for the total number of DLCs and the release cadence have not yet been finalized.
Since its release in March, Crimson Desert has received a series of updates, including new pets, minigames, and abilities. The company also promised to change the game’s story.
