Tencent announced on Wednesday (4) the launch of the Hy4, its new generation of artificial intelligence, with image interpretation and computer operation capabilities. The model is already available through the company's services and APIs, but the final version weights have not yet been published. The company promised to make them available in the coming days.
The launch follows the Hy4 Preview, presented in August with 770 billion parameters, of which 49 billion are activated for each token processed. The architecture uses a combination of experts (Mixture of Experts), which allows mobilizing only part of the parameters during execution. The previous version also offers a context window of approximately 1 million tokens.
Tencent did not confirm in the new announcement whether all these specifications were maintained. The Preview weights are already available under the Apache 2.0 license, while the files and licensing terms of the final version still await publication.
Among the main new features are the ability to analyze complex charts, interpret image details and solve mathematical problems with visual information. Hy4 can also interact with graphical interfaces and command terminals, with specific training to use professional tools such as Blender and CAD software.
The company says it has improved the execution of long-running tasks, instruction following and application development. In internal evaluations, the rate of responses with incorrect or invented information fell from 12.95% in the Preview to 7.2% in the new version. These results were released by Tencent itself and do not represent an independent validation.
Independent evaluation places Hy4 in 4th place among open-weight models
An evaluation published on November 4 by Vals AI offers an external comparison. On the Vals Index, which measures performance in practical tasks, Hy4 achieved 59.35% accuracy and 13th place among 33 models. Considering only the models classified by the platform as open-weight, it placed 4th, behind Kimi K3.1 Pro, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3.
The result represents an improvement over the 53.21% recorded by the Hy4 Preview. In terminal tasks, the score went from 8.08% to 39.39%, according to the same evaluator. The numbers show measurable advances, although the model is still behind other competitors in different categories.
Tencent also announced security measures for the future distribution of the weights. According to the company, the training used cybersecurity data aimed at defense and vulnerability correction, excluding materials directed at offensive exploitation. Evaluations conducted by its Xuanwu and Keen laboratories did not identify significant risks in the offensive capabilities examined.
Hy4 can be accessed through Tencent Cloud TokenHub, WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy, Yuanbao and external platforms such as OpenRouter. The company kept prices close to US$ 0.90 per million input tokens and US$ 2.70 per million output tokens, with a 50% discount on TokenHub until December 31, 2026.
In addition to the future publication of the weights and the security reports, Tencent is preparing Hy4 Flash, a variant aimed at greater cost efficiency, with no confirmed launch date yet.
