Walmart will begin accepting Apple Pay, Google Pay and other contactless payments at select U.S. stores this Monday (24). The change will also come to Sam’s Club and will be gradually expanded across the entire U.S. chain.
Customers will be able to pay by holding compatible cards, smartphones or smartwatches near the terminals. The new feature ends a period in which the retailer prioritized its own solutions, such as Walmart Pay, over the leading digital wallets.
Expansion will be completed by the end of 2026
The plan plans to bring Tap to Pay to all Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations in the United States by the end of this year. Gas stations are expected to receive the technology by the middle of 2027.
The new options will be available alongside cash, traditional cards and Walmart Pay. At Sam’s Club, Scan & Go will remain available for in-app payments without going through the conventional checkout.
