Macau collected 58.34 billion patacas (US$ 7.22 billion) in gaming taxes between January and July 2026, the city's Financial Services Bureau said. The figure represents an increase of 9.3% compared with the same period in 2025.
The sector's taxes remain the main source of revenue for the local government. As of July 31, they accounted for about 86% of current revenue, which totaled 67.85 billion patacas.
July collections
In July, the monthly collection of these taxes fell 17.5% from June, to 7.15 billion patacas.
The casinos' gross gaming revenue (GGR) moved in the opposite direction: it rose 9.4% in July, to 20.26 billion patacas, after falling 18.1% in June, to 18.52 billion.
The collection and GGR figures are not directly comparable in the same period. There is a time lag between the operators' revenue recognition and the payment of the tax to the government.
2026 target
The government's target for 2026 is to collect 92.53 billion patacas in gaming taxes. Through July, collections amount to 63.1% of the projected figure.
Macau's current gaming concession system took effect on January 1st, 2023, with a duration of ten years. The effective tax rate on casinos' gross gaming revenue is 40% of GGR.
