The Paystack launched on Friday (25) a card checkout integrated directly with Shopify in South Africa, allowing consumers to complete payment without being redirected to an external page. The company also began connecting in-person payments to the Shopify ecosystem, bringing merchants' online and physical operations closer together.

In the new checkout, card data is entered within the store's own payment page. The solution initially supports Visa and Mastercard and is already available for installation by South African merchants on Shopify.

The change eliminates a step at the end of the purchase process, when the customer would normally be sent to the payment provider's environment before returning to the store after the transaction.

An agency that works with local merchants, AskMario, said that some clients recorded a conversion increase of up to 15% with the feature. The figure represents these clients' experience and not an average result disclosed by Paystack.

In-person payments enter the same flow

The second front connects transactions made in physical stores to Shopify. According to Paystack, the integration allows in-person payments to be associated with the merchant's account on the platform, reducing the operational separation between sales on the website and at the physical location.

The Shopify App Store also lists an integration for the South African market that connects Paystack-compatible terminals to Shopify POS, sending the purchase amount directly from the point-of-sale system to the terminal and recording the payment on the order.

Paystack's terminal lineup in South Africa currently includes its Virtual Terminal, which accepts cards, Scan to Pay, SnapScan and EFT. The company's public documentation still states that its own physical terminals are available only in Nigeria.

With the two integrations, Paystack expands its presence in the sales flow of merchants who use Shopify in South Africa: from payment within online checkout to the connection of transactions made in person.
