A Shein opened on Thursday (10) a new automated distribution center in Lebanon, in the U.S. state of Indiana. With 737,000 square feet — about 68,500 m² —, the facility will begin operating as early as September and will strengthen the retailer's logistics infrastructure in the United States.
With the opening, the company now occupies more than 2.5 million square feet in facilities in the state, the equivalent of approximately 232,000 m². The new center is about 2.4 kilometers from the operations Shein already maintains in the region.
The facility uses a fulfillment system goods-to-person, in which stored products are moved automatically to the employees responsible for picking orders. The model reduces travel within the warehouse and seeks to increase the efficiency of the fulfillment process.
The expansion will also have an impact on the local workforce. Shein says it currently employs more than 1,300 people in Indiana and expects the creation of hundreds of additional jobs as the new operation gains scale. The company did not disclose a final number of hires.
Indiana became one of the main hubs of the company's U.S. logistics network after the opening of its distribution operation in Whitestown, in 2022. The new facility in Lebanon expands that structure at a time when the retailer is strengthening its domestic capacity to process and deliver orders in the U.S.
