Research by PYMNTS Intelligence in partnership with Visa Acceptance Solutions indicates that Brazilian consumers recorded 67 days of digital purchases per month, an increase of 8% compared to 2024, and that the use of artificial intelligence is associated with a higher frequency of purchases.
The survey "The 2026 Global Digital Shopping Index: Brazil Playbook" surveyed 2,273 consumers and 501 merchants in Brazil in March 2026. The study is part of a broader edition covering 5,241 consumers and 1,185 merchants in Brazil, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
Digital consumer profile
Consumers who browse daily on their mobile phones record 40 days of digital purchases per month, compared with 12 for those who browse infrequently. AI users total 38 days, versus 30 for those who do not use the tool. Millennials, parents, and higher-income consumers buy above the national average.
Cellphone in the physical store
In their last in-person purchase, 57% of Brazilians used a mobile device and 51% compared prices in other establishments. Demand for in-store product locators on mobile phones exceeds merchant supply by 26 points; for digital coupons, by 24 points.
Confidence in automated purchases
Brazilian consumers tend to authorize automated purchases when they can cancel the order within 24 hours, with price limits, guaranteed returns, and alerts for hard-to-find products. Most prefer to share purchase and payment data one transaction at a time.
