The Aztec Labs relaunched zk.money this Tuesday (29), a cryptocurrency wallet that allows payments to be made without publicly disclosing balances, amounts, or recipients. The new version uses Aztec Network, an Ethereum layer 2 solution developed for privacy applications.

The product operates with self-custody, allowing users to keep control of their assets without relying on the company to move them. It also offers custom identifiers, such as usuario.zk.money, and links to send or request payments.

Initially, the wallet operates with the stablecoin DAI, but it accepts deposits in USDC and USDT, automatically converted to DAI. Transfers made within the platform remain private, while deposits and withdrawals continue to leave public records on Ethereum.

The architecture uses zero-knowledge proofs, a cryptographic technology that allows transactions to be validated without revealing their data. Unlike a conventional wallet, users' financial history is not fully exposed on the blockchain.

New version debuts with transaction limits

The relaunch comes with operational restrictions. Each deposit, payment, or withdrawal must be less than US$ 2,500, while all users share a deposit limit of US$ 50,000 per day.

Deposits cost US$ 0.35, in addition to Ethereum fees, and withdrawals have a fee of US$ 0.20. The platform initially offers up to 100 subsidized transactions per day per user, subject to the availability of funds to cover network fees.

Aztec Network is still in Alpha phase. Its own documentation warns that the software has not undergone complete audits and remains subject to vulnerabilities, including critical ones. The wallet also screens the addresses used in deposits and withdrawals in accordance with its sanctions policy.

The first version of zk.money was launched in 2021, surpassed 75,000 wallets and processed more than US$ 100 million. The service stopped accepting deposits in 2023 and was permanently shut down in March 2024, while the company focused its efforts on developing its new infrastructure.

Aztec Labs plans to launch a mobile app and integrate the wallet with decentralized finance protocols during the fourth quarter of 2026. There is still no definitive date for these releases.
