Based on official ARCA data, consultancy Analytica announced this Monday that revenue from the indirect tax on online betting and gaming in Argentina totaled 17.8 billion pesos in July, a real increase of 27.8% from June.
On a year-over-year basis, growth was 50.5%. In the January-to-July accumulated period, revenue from the tax totals 89.6 billion pesos, up 40% from the 48.1 billion recorded in the same period of 2025. The figure, however, represents a small fraction of July's total revenue of 22.965 trillion pesos.
Analytica's director, Claudio Caprarulo, said the monthly jump is the highest since records exist. According to him, the increase is likely due to the World Cup effect, played in July, which boosted betting, although the trend was already rising before the tournament. He cited as factors the digital ecosystem, advertising and socioeconomic needs.
The tax was created by Law 27.346 of 2016, and applies to bets placed on digital platforms. The general rate is 5% on the net amount of deposits, with the possibility of refunding the tax. In November 2025, the Argentine government updated the tax collection regime, with new rules for registration and control of authorized operators.
World Cup effect on betting
During the final between Argentina and Spain, searches for betting platforms grew 6,200%, according to a survey by the Observatory of Addictions and Problematic Consumptions of the Ombudsman's Office of the province of Buenos Aires, based on Google Trends. In matches against England, the increase was 4,850%; against Egypt, 3,600%; against Algeria, 600%.
The study also points to a change in the bettor profile: searches for "games that pay the most" rose 350%, indicating the use of betting as an economic way out. After the games, interest moved to online casinos, with peaks in virtual roulette in the early morning. The report warns that lack of knowledge of the digital ecosystem leads users to fraudulent sites or unregulated "clones".
