CD Projekt Red launched this Tuesday (29) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, a new version of the RPG with changes to graphics, combat, progression, and animations. The title arrives as a free update for eligible players and also debuts natively on Nintendo Switch 2 and, for the first time, on Battle.net.
The upgrade is free for those who already own The Witcher 3 on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. On Switch 2, owners of the original Nintendo Switch version can also migrate at no cost. The Battle.net version, in turn, is available for purchase.
One of the main changes is in the progression system. Skills have been reorganized into a new tree, now with prerequisites and three levels per skill, plus balancing adjustments and synergies. As a consequence of the overhaul, existing skill points are reset after the update.
Combat also received new finisher animations, dynamic camera, and changes to monster behavior. The movement of Geralt and Carpeado has been reworked, while a new system allows changing the appearance of equipment without modifying its attributes.
Mods arrive on consoles and Switch 2 gets its own controls
Remastered adds cross-platform mod support through mod.io, including consoles. The interface, photo mode, and various accessibility features have also been expanded.
On PC, the update includes path tracing, DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 2.0. The PlayStation 5 Pro receives dedicated support, while the Switch 2 version incorporates motion controls, gyro aiming, mouse-style controls, touchscreen, HDR, and VRR.
The new edition also changes the game's commercial package. On compatible platforms, Remastered replaces the Complete Edition and now includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Even players who previously owned only the base game receive both expansions at no additional cost.
The release precedes Songs of the Past, the third expansion for The Witcher 3, scheduled for 2027. The new content will take Geralt to the kingdom of Letten and will also have a version for Nintendo Switch 2.
